Depending on what you have in your fridge or pantry, this is a quick snack or starter for when you crave a pizza flavour but have none of the dough and have only white bread.
Preparation 10 mins, Cooking approx 15-20 mins
- Sliced bread, to taste
- Tomato sauce, to taste
- Capers, a handful
- Dried oregano, a handful
- Fresh basil, a few leaves
- A pinch of salt
- Ham if you have it
- A few slices of cheese, Mozzarella or whatever you have
- EVOO – Extra Virgin Olive Oil, a drizzle
Method
We did not cut the crust off the bread slices, we liked the crispy effect of the edges.
Preheat the oven to 200 degrees.
On a parchment paper-lined baking tray, brush the bread slices with a little EVOO.
Toast them in the oven for a couple of minutes, then remove them, without turning off the oven.
Put tomato sauce in a bowl and season with a pinch of salt, oregano, capers and a little oil. You can also put some minced garlic so you’ll get a Marinara Style-Sauce.
Garnish the bread slices with the seasoned tomato sauce, on others add the mozzarella slices, bake again for a further 8-10 minutes.
Garnish with ham and basil leaves.
