We had some fun in our kitchen by playing with puff pastry, it’s so easy to turn it into a bunch of delightful starters.
We chose Gorgonzola cheese and cooked ham filling for these nice pinwheels.
Serves 4, Preparation time 15 mins, Cooking time 15 mins
- Ready-rolled puff pastry: 1 standard-sized roll
- Finely Sliced Cooked Ham: 150 g
- Gorgonzola cheese: 60 g
- Parmigiano Reggiano, grated: to taste
- Egg, beaten: 1
- Optional, Extra Virgin Olive Oil, a tbsp
- Thyme, dried: to taste
- Poppy seeds: to taste
- A pinch of salt
Method
Beat up the egg with a bit of milk in a bowl.
Take the puff pastry straight from the fridge, roll it out, prick it all over with the prongs of a fork.
Place Gorgonzola chunks and ham slices, sprinkle evenly with grated Parmigiano cheese, leaving about 1cm clear around the edges.
Roll it up tightly into a sausage, cut into roughly 2cm rounds. Brush each pinwheel with beaten egg or just with a drizzle of olive oil, then coat it in poppy seeds and / or dried thyme, add a pinch of salt.
Place them on an oven tray lined with baking paper.
Bake 180°C / 350 F / Gas 4 10 to 15 minutes and leave them to cool a little before serving.
