This cheddar puff pastry rolls are ready before you can even say their name, and they are a great last minute idea for an impromptu aperitif or a movie snack. They only require very few ingredients and almost no technique, so you can also enjoy preparing them with your children.
Here’s my special trick for when I use puff pastry: I combine one egg with some water and I brush it over the pastry before flinging it into the oven. Your rolls will get a delicious golden brown crust!
Serves: 2 | Preparation time: under 5 mins | Cooking time 10 mins
- Puff pastry: 1 sheet
- Cheddar: 80 g
- Eggs: 1
- Water: 1 tbsp
- Parmesan, grated: to taste
Preheat the oven to 180°C.
Roll out the puff pastry sheet and cut it in stripes about 2 cm wide. Beat up the egg in a little bowl and add the water, gently brush each dough stripe with the egg and water mixture.
Sprinkle the puff pastry stripes with the Parmesan and cover their length with cheddar slices. Roll up each stripe in a little cylinder and brush the egg and water emulsion all over its surface. Place all the rolls on an oven tray lined with baking paper, then add a pinch of salt and some grated Parmesan on top.
Bake the rolls at 180°C for 10 mins and let them cool down at room temperature before serving them.
Tip: You can make a delicious dip for your cheddar puff pastry rolls by mixing sour cream or Greek yogurt with some freshly chopped aromatic herbs and garlic.
